captureThe Institute of European Law is an institute, within the meaning of Art. 86 of the Statutes of 31 March 2000 of the University of Fribourg, attached to the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg. Emerged from the “Forschungsstelle für Europarecht” (1989), the Institute was found in 1995.

The main objectives of the Institute of European Law are the development and promotion of teaching and research in European Law. It also provides the authorities and individuals, as far as possible, with information on European legal issues.

The Institute manages a documentation center and a public access library. It publishes the results of its research and organizes continuous training, scientific days and public lectures.

Within the framework of the BENEFRI program, close cooperation exists with the Universities of Berne and Neuchâtel. In addition, the Institute collaborates with other universities and institutions in Switzerland and abroad.
